this guy recently answered a question and said that los angeles has a bad public transit system. i poseth of him now: how many hours, total, have you used any service provided by the MTA since you’ve lived in LA?

You make a good point: it IS possible to get around in LA without a car.  But, from my personal experience, when I say LA transit sucks, it’s because I’ve used transit systems in Boston and Washington, DC that go almost EVERYWHERE and are MORE EFFICIENT than using cars.  The reason transit sucks in LA isn’t a problem with the transit itself: it’s a problem that’s endemic to how LA was planned.  Boston and DC are rather centralized.  Los Angeles is not.  Being de-centralized is a construction of the automobile industry, specifically in order to drive the need for their product (and to destroy public transit).

That said, LADOT does a great job of making things as efficient and accessible as possible.  They do the best they can with a shitty hand, and they’re making it even better.
